Fasset’s half-day Budget and Tax Update seminar will be held countrywide between 23 and 30 March 2020 and will cover the relevant and appropriate aspects of the Minister of Finance’s Budget Speech. This will offer you a unique opportunity to bring yourself up-to-date with the latest developments in tax. The seminars are designed to meet the above needs by identifying features of recent developments that are relevant to small, medium-sized and micro enterprises (SMME’s), inclusive of tax practitioners, auditors, accountants and learners that serve these sized clients.
The seminar is aimed at providing an overview of the most important tax amendments proposed in the Taxation Laws Amendment Act 2019, the Taxation Laws Amendment Act, 2019 and Rates and Monetary Amounts and Amendment of Revenue Laws Act, 2019. The seminar will cover the following:
An overview of the key proposals in the 2020 Budget;
Practical explanations of the key amendments relating to amended Taxation Laws;
Other relevant and important developments in tax, SARS administration, including important cases and rulings issued during 2019/2020.
The current state of the particular tax provision;
The reason for the change;
The proposed amendment;
The effective date of the amendment; and
The expected impact of the amendment.

Lynette Badenhorst, Master Tax Practitioner (SA), CA(SA)
Lynette is a Chartered Accountant (SA) that places a high premium on skills development in the profession, believing it to be essential for staff efficiency and overall organisational performance. Her highest academic qualification is a post graduate M Com SA and International Taxation.
Lynette’s responsibilities include the development of course material for different training platforms and she therefore spends numerous hours researching and interpreting new developments in the accounting industry, specifically audit, taxation and legislative updates.
Magda Turner, Master Tax Practitioner (SA)
Magda is a tax specialist and is the former head of the taxation at the Wits School of Accountancy, where she was a senior lecturer for more than a decade. She is currently the Head of Tax at the Institute of Accounting Science, a provider of higher education, predominantly focussing on a Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy, leading students to becoming chartered accountants. Her highest academic qualification is a post graduate M Com Tax.
Wessel Smit, CA(SA)
Wessel is an independent tax consultant and director at Core Tax (Pty) Ltd advising on tax issues to SMEs. Is is a former senior tax lecturer at the University of the Free State and the University of Johannesburg. His highest academic qualification is a post graduate M Com in Taxation.
He is well-known presenter of tax seminars to SAIT and SAICA members.
Prof Annet Oguttu, Master Tax Practitioner (SA)
Annet Oguttu is the former President of the SA Institute of Tax Professionals, and currently a non-executive board member of The Tax Faculty NPC.
Prof Oguttu completed her doctorate in Tax Law at Unisa in 2008. She is the second woman to have completed a doctorate in Tax Law at a South African university and the first black woman to do so.
Annet is a Master Practitioner (SA) and is an active member of the International Fiscal Association. She is a senior professor in tax law at the University of Pretoria and the author of Tax Law: An Introduction and International Tax Law: Offshore Tax Avoidance in South Africa.
Zweli Mabhoza, CA(SA)
Zweli is the founder and director of Priority Tax Solutions. Zweli has advised a number of clients for a number of years in the tax arena. He was previously a tax partner at Deloitte for six years and a Head of Tax at SizweNtsalubaGobodo. He is well known in the market for his tax contributions. He provides comments to National Treasury on tax legislation proposal and has also attended Davis Committee and commented on the existing tax mining legislation. He is also a commentator on various radio and TV stations.
Thuli Mokgele, Master Tax Practitioner (SA), CA(SA)
Thuli is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and holds a Masters in International Tax Law. She is also a member of the Institute of Directors. She is an experienced Tax Lecturer at Post-Graduate/Honours level at IIE MSA and has more than 10 years’ external auditing experience with a big four firm.
Corlia Faurie, CA(SA)
Corlia is a Chartered Accountant (SA), with 3 years of experience in lecturing and tutoring tax. She obtained both her Degree and Honours Degree in B Com Accounting Sciences at the University of Pretoria, in 2015 and 2016 respectively. She completed her audit articles at BDO South Africa During 2017, she served one-year academic articles at the University of Pretoria as an assistant tax lecturer and completed her audit articles at BDO South Africa afterwards, Corlia is currently employed at ProBeta Training as a Course Developer and Facilitator in the tax department, where she is applying her knowledge and passion for taxation in courses aimed at enriching the lives of others through education.
